THE OBA AWARD
The Old Blandfordians Award was instituted by the OBA in order to have a constant presence in The Blandford School.

It is awarded each year to the student deemed to have given most to 'the school community'. The award takes the form of a traditional shield and is held by the winner for one year. After that year, they receive a smaller, permanent award as a reminder of their success.
Each year the OBA also donates a sum, usually £50, to the school book prize fund and has recently helped the 'stereo in the sixth form room fund' with a £50 donation

THE NORA DAKIN AWARD
Miss Nora Dakin (1907-1995) spent the final twenty years of her teaching life as the Deputy Head of Blandford Grammar School.

Throughout that time she served the school with great distinction, showing outstanding loyalty and total dedication. Her insistance on exceptionally high standards in all aspects of her life brought her the respect and praise of countless Old Blandfordians. She was a brilliant mathematician and her teaching life was devoted to that subject.
For the thirty years between her retirement and her passing, she not only maintained her interest and close contact with past students, but she actively supported the Old Blandfordians Association. Following consultation with the Head of The Blandford School, it was decided to mark her memory by making an annual award to the student in The Blandford School who is deemed to have made the greatest progress in mathematics.
A fund was established by donations from the membership and other parties and the interest is used to provide the award, (usually a fountain pen together with an appropriate scroll). The fund remains open and if you want to make a donation contact Chris Hazelwood

The Norah Dakin Award is a fitting memorial to a very remarkable lady.
